A warm, golden field that settles the room around it. Amber, honey and soft rose drift across the canvas in horizontal bands, held between two darker horizons — one above, one below — with a quiet thread of deep red bleeding through near the base. It carries the feeling of that suspended hour when the day is neither one thing nor the next: still, warm, and unhurried. A natural anchor for a living room, bedroom or entryway that leans warm and calm.
This painting wasn't planned. I was halfway through another series when I sat down one morning to prepare an underpainting — and these colours, ones I'd been quietly wanting to work with for months, took over. What was meant to be a base layer for something else insisted on becoming its own piece. Some paintings wait politely. This one didn't.
