In a living room, bedroom, or dressing area, Wild Poise brings movement and bold colour without losing its sense of control. The figure bends back at the centre of a sweeping green form, held against a warm coral ground. Deep emerald, teal and black give the painting weight, while the openness around her keeps the composition light.
I wanted this piece to hold two opposing feelings at once: abandon and composure. The skirt was built in broad, layered marks so it moves beyond the body, almost as if the gesture continues across the canvas. The more freely I worked into the green, the calmer and more assured the figure began to feel.
